Open your favorite Magic DJ or playlist.
Tap Options (the ellipsis icon) in the upper-right corner.
Tap Add to Siri, then confirm.
Ask Siri to play it.
Recreate default Magic DJs
Starting in SongCapsule 1.6.5, it’s possible to bring back a deleted Magic DJ that was automatically created for you.
Steps
Tap Settings (the gear icon).
Tap Recreate Default Mixes, then confirm..
Tip: On the Mac, select SongCapsule > Preferences… in the menu bar to open Settings.

Use special links to open SongCapsule on your device
SongCapsule has links that you can use to open the app right where it was left off or in a specific tab. These links are also known as “URL schemes.”

When using an external physical keyboard on iPad or Mac, you can take advantage of shortcuts to control the media playback or create a new Magic DJ in SongCapsule.

Receive a SongCapsule #tbt notification every week
SongCapsule #tbt is automatically enabled when you open SongCapsule for the first time. However, you can manually turn it on.
Steps
Tap Settings (the gear icon).
Turn on Throwback Thursday.
Choose the time that you want to receive the notification on Thursdays. The default is 9:00 A.M.
Note: If you can’t turn on the option, first open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad and go to SongCapsule > Notifications, then turn on Allow Notifications.
Remember forgotten songs right from your Home Screen
The Forgotten Songs widget displays different songs from SongCapsule during the day.
Steps
From the Home Screen, touch and hold the SongCapsule app icon, then tap Edit Home Screen.
Tap Add (the plus sign icon) in the upper-left corner.
Look for SongCapsule, then swipe left to find the Forgotten Songs widget.
Tap Add Widget.
Note: This feature requires iOS or iPadOS 14 or later. On iOS 16, you can also add the SongCapsule widget to the Lock Screen.
There’s an easy way to restart a Magic DJ or playlist and begin it again. This is special useful when SongCapsule is closed in the background while you’re listening to a song.
Steps
Tap the Now Playing tab.
Scroll down to find the card showing what Magic DJ or playlist is currently playing.
Tap Restart (the arrow pointing left icon).
Add Magic DJs and playlists to your Home Screen
The Quick Access widget lets you go right to your favorite or recent Magic DJs and playlists.
Steps
From the Home Screen, touch and hold the SongCapsule app icon, then tap Edit Home Screen.
Tap Add (the plus sign icon) in the upper-left corner.
Look for SongCapsule, then swipe left to choose a size of the Quick Access widget.
Tap Add Widget.
From the Home Screen, tap the added widget to change its settings.
Note: This feature requires iOS or iPadOS 14 or later.
You can add shortcuts to Wind Down to play your favorite artist or genre using SongCapsule when Sleep Mode is turned on.
Steps
Open your favorite Magic DJ or playlist.
Tap Options (the ellipsis icon) in the upper-right corner.
Tap Add to Siri, then confirm.
Exit SongCapsule, open the Shortcuts app and find the Magic DJ or playlist that you’ve just added.
Tap the ellipsis button, then the ellipsis button again, and turn on Show in Sleep Mode.
Note: This feature requires iOS 14 or 15.
Create new Magic DJs based on specific artists or genres
SongCapsule automatically creates Magic DJs based on your most listened to artists and genres, but you can always create a new one.
Steps
Go to the Magic DJs tab.
Tap New (the plus sign button) in the upper-right corner.
Choose what kind of Magic DJ that you want to create.
Tap the chosen artists or genres (up to 3) in the list.
Share a beautiful card of what you’re listening to
SongCapsule can generate a card showing information about the current song — so you can post it on Twitter, for example.
Steps
Go to the Now Playing tab (iPhone) or open the sidebar (iPad).
Tap Share (the arrow pointing up) in the upper-right corner.
Choose where you want to share the card.
Tip: Scroll down and choose Create Story if you want to post it on Instagram or Facebook Stories.
See what’s playing at anytime
Did you know that you don’t need to go to the Now Playing tab to see what song you’re currently listening to? Just use the playback controls.
How to Use Them
Swipe left to see the song information.
Swipe right to see the controls.
Tip: Song information is automatically shown when you tap Play in a Magic DJ or playlist, except when you choose a specific song in the list.
Note: This feature only works on iPad when using Split View or Slide Over.
Play your Magic DJs and playlists in the car
You can access all your Magic DJs and playlists while in the car using Apple’s CarPlay.
Steps
Connect your iPhone to CarPlay.
Tap the SongCapsule app on the Home Screen.
Choose a Magic DJ or playlist to start playing it.
Tip: You can use the Now Playing app on CarPlay to control the playback.
Hide a playlist that you don’t like
Playlists are always automatically created by SongCapsule, but you can hide the ones you don’t want to see.
Steps
Open the playlist that you want to hide.
Tap Options (the ellipsis icon) in the upper-right corner.
Tap Playlist Options.
Tap Hide Playlist, then confirm.
Tip: You can also touch and hold a playlist on the Playlists tab to access this option.
Note: You can’t hide the Recently Added playlist.
Change the order of the songs in a playlist
Steps
Open the playlist.
Tap Options (the ellipsis icon) in the upper-right corner.
Tap Playlist Options.
Tap Order By, then choose the desired options.
Note:Playlist Order is the default characteristic of the playlist. For example, the Most Played playlist shows the most listened to songs at the top.
Limit the number of songs in a playlist
Steps
Open the playlist.
Tap Options (the ellipsis icon) in the upper-right corner.
Tap Playlist Options.
Tap Limit Playlist, then choose how many songs you’d like to see in that playlist.
Choose a different algorithm for a Magic DJ
Magic DJs can have different algorithms to determine what songs they will include in a mix.
Steps
Open the Magic DJ that you want to change.
Tap Options (the ellipsis icon) in the upper-right corner.
Tap Magic DJ Options.
Choose one of the three different kinds of mixes: Balanced, Rediscover Songs, or Prioritize Favorites.
Delete a Magic DJ that you don’t like
Steps
Open the Magic DJ that you want to delete.
Tap Options (the ellipsis icon) in the upper-right corner.
Tap Magic DJ Options.
Tap Delete Magic DJ, then confirm.
Tip: You can also touch and hold a Magic DJ on the Magic DJs tab to access this option.
Tell Magic DJ to not repeat songs
By default, Magic DJ plays your favorite hits more frequently, even if this means repeating songs in the mix. This feature can be turned off easily.
Steps
Open the Magic DJ that you want to change.
Tap Options (the ellipsis icon) in the upper-right corner.
Tap Magic DJ Options.
Turn off Allow Repeated Songs.
Exclude songs, albums, artists, and genres from SongCapsule
You can tell SongCapsule to ignore selected content without having to delete it from your music library.
Steps
Go to the Now Playing tab.
Tap Settings (the gear icon).
Tap Excluded Content, then select everything that you don’t want to see in SongCapsule.
Tip: You can pull the page when selecting items to access the search bar.
Export Magic DJs and playlists to Apple’s Music app
If you’d like to archive a Magic DJ or playlist or even share it with your friends, you can export it to Apple’s Music app and take advantage of its features.
Steps
Open the Magic DJ or playlist that you want to export.
Tap Options (the ellipsis icon) in the upper-right corner.
Tap Export to Music App.
Tip: You can also use this feature to listen to your SongCapsule playlists on your Windows or Android device, for example.
Refresh the content of your Magic DJs and playlists
SongCapsule automatically refreshes your content every time you open the app after it was closed in the background or when you make changes to your music library, but you can also manually refresh your Magic DJs and playlists.
Steps
Go to the Magic DJs or Playlists tab.
Pull down the page until you see a loading icon at the top.
Wait for it to stop spinning and disappear.
